About

A little about who I am, and how we might walk alongside each other.

I’m Rebecca Thompson Hitt. For more than thirty years, I’ve been curious about one question: what helps us come back into connection, with ourselves and with the people we love?

I trained as a marriage and family therapist. I’m a mother of grown sons. And these days I think of myself most of all as a guide. Not someone who holds your answers, but someone who walks alongside you while you find your own.

How do I work?

Most of us were taught to look at behavior. What someone did, and what we ought to do about it. I’ve spent my life looking somewhere else. Underneath the behavior, at the nervous system, at our earliest experiences, at the patterns that were laid down long before we had words for them.

When we can see those patterns, something softens. A child’s hard moment stops being a problem to fix and becomes a communication to understand. A pattern you keep repeating stops being a flaw and becomes a doorway. I won’t tell you what your experience means. I’ll ask questions, listen without pathologizing, and walk alongside you as you find your own way back into relationship, from your own knowing.

What I teach is a system, not a script. Once you have it, you run it yourself. That is the whole point. I’m not here to make you need me. I’m here to help you trust what you already carry.

How I got here.

I came to this work through my own children first. As a young mother, I found my way to La Leche League, where I learned to trust the quiet intelligence of connection. That led me to study attachment and trauma, and then to the field of prenatal and perinatal somatic psychology, where I spent years exploring how our very beginnings shape so much of what comes after.

In 2007, I founded The Consciously Parenting Project. For nearly two decades, I’ve walked alongside families ready to move out of conflict and into connection. I’ve written four books along the way, each one a step in the same arc. See the relationship differently. Create connection at the beginning. Nurture it daily. And trust that it can heal and repair at any age.

Why Thriving Humans

The work was never only about parenting. It was always about being human. About the nervous system, about relationship, about coming home to ourselves. Thriving Humans is the widening of that same work. The same heart, the same system, now offered to anyone walking alongside someone they love, or learning to walk alongside themselves.

Parents and grandparents. Couples and individuals. Foster and kinship caregivers. The practitioners who hold others all day and need somewhere to be held themselves. If you found your way here, you are welcome here.

There’s a phrase we keep coming back to. It’s the whole philosophy in six words.

Be curious. Be kind. Start with yourself.

You don’t need to have it figured out. You only need to be willing to wonder.

If you would like to work together

There are a few ways in, depending on what you’re carrying and where you are right now. Each one is its own kind of beginning. You get to decide what fits.
